New view of the valley from Mathias Track 2022
Around the corner you come to the point. The path the storm took driving like a bullock train up the hill from Silvan Road to Olinda across to Kalorama. Large patches of forest are lying down now, and the sky is there, where the canopy once was. From here I can see across to Silvan Road. The Japanese Cedars are easily visible in the arboretum, and I watch the cars driving across the hill. Some trees are completely stripped of their branches after their neighbours razored them off on the way down. Others stand topless, snapped in half - some with the canopy still attached, hanging by a thread, others with the other half thirty metres below, lying down with all the others. I stand in awe of them, and my heart beats fast in my grief.
