Emma uses a visual language to communicate the idea that we are all connected through biology, landscape, and our basic need for clean air and a healthy environment. She is fascinated by indigenous cultures and their connection to country, their sustainable use of natural resources and traditional practices.

Cultural traditions greatly inspire Emma’s work. As well as Australian indigenous traditions, she often looks to oriental art and design for its reflections on nature and artistic processes handed down from generation to generation. Her experience working within corporate design studios with their fast production timelines and global manufacturing methods has prompted Emma to further explore her interests in traditional techniques and sustainable practices.

Living amongst the lush forests of Melbourne’s Dandenong Ranges Emma has an endless supply of reference material for her intricate botanical studies, painted in gouache and watercolour on handmade Japanese papers.  Emma’s work is held in local, interstate and international collections and has a growing number of collectors who regularly purchase her work. Emma participated in the Dandenong Ranges Open Studios for four consecutive years, winning the People’s Choice Award twice, and runner twice.

Emma is extending her practise to explore sculptural works following on from her recent commission from Parks Victoria for a large scale public artwork currently in progress.
